Hi, I'm Kathryn!

Thank you for visiting.

This is a long story. But, I'll keep it to the Reader's Digest version.

When I was in college, I started feeling an unbearable pain in my left breast. It was exceedingly painful to raise my arms, and I couldn't wear a bra. I went to the gynecologist, and was immediately set up with an appointment in the breast cancer ward to get an ultrasound where they found several tumors. Then I had a fine-needle aspiration.

Thankfully, everything was benign, but they didn't recommend operating because there's a good chance they would come back. So, the pain was something i had to live with.

The whole experience really got me thinking about what I put in and on my body. I had never considered it before; I just assumed everything I was consuming was safe. What I learned is there's very little regulation and testing for a lot of the products we buy like beauty products and cleaning products.

Many of these products contain endocrine disruptors which interfere with our hormones. I felt very motivated to take control of my health, try to balance my hormones, and naturally ease my pain.

I started trying to avoid unnecessary endocrine disruptors by reducing my contact with plastic, cooking from scratch, watching my sugar and caffeine intake, making my own cleaning products, and opting for green beauty products. And after experimenting and moving to a more holistic lifestyle, all of my pain went away. I've been pain free now for over three years. I accredit this most closely with changing my deodorant.

Kathryn K. Going Zero Waste

I majored in musical theatre and performed professionally for several years after college. After one particular gig, I met my Justin (Spoiler alert - we got married a couple of years later) and he asked me to move out to California with him.

When I arrived, I was shocked to see all of the litter and plastic lining the streets. We were so close to the ocean, and it all clicked for me. Plastic isn't just bad for personal health; it's also bad for the health of the planet.

Health and wellness of self is so intrinsically linked to the health and the wellness of the planet.

I started my blog to help others improve their personal health, improve the health of the planet, and most importantly I wanted everyone to know their choices matter. Big or small, the changes you make add up to a huge positive impact.

Small actions done by hundreds of thousands of people will change the world. You don't have to be perfect to make a difference, you just have to try.

I still live in the bay area and somehow manage the time to do professional theatre. Some of my favortie roles since getting to the Bay have been Viola in 12th Night and Katherine in The Taming.

Some of my favorite things are morning matcha, long family walks, the color orange, and pizza. Lots and lots of pizza!

I hope you follow along with me on my journey to reduce my waste. Together we will find alternatives to plastic, eat real food, and go on adventures instead of collecting more stuff!

How does that sound to you?

Meet the Fam

Justin, my rockstar husband, who might love pizza more than I do. He is an audio engineer, and if I ask really, really nice, he'll take pictures and shoot video for me.
