Hi, I'm Kathryn!
Thank you for visiting.
This journey started when I was in college. I started feeling an unbearable pain in my left breast. It was exceedingly painful to raise my arms; and I couldn't wear a bra. After performing an ultrasound, the doctors were alarmed to see a lot of abnormal growth. After performing more tests, the tumors were benign. But, the pain was something I would just have to live with.
The whole situation really got me thinking about what I put in and on my body. I had never considered it before; I just assumed everything I was consuming was safe. There's very little regulation and testing for the products we buy. Cleaning companies don't even have to release the ingredients they use.
I felt very motivated to take control of my health. First I started cooking from scratch. This is definitely a process. I'm still learning new things! I believe eating real, whole food (eat your veggies!) and getting proper nutrition is vital to health. Then I started making my own cleaning products. It wound up being very simple and cost effective. Then I moved on to making my own beauty products. It originally seemed really scary, but then this funny thing happened. After switching to an all natural deodorant - my pain went away.
I'm proud to announce, I've been pain free for two years.
After moving to California, I was shocked to see all of the litter and plastic in the ocean. I knew I had to do something; so, I decided to be the change I wanted to see. I stopped buying plastic and wanted to create a sustainable life. It felt like a really natural progression.
I live in the bay area and like to spend my free time hiking, cooking, and snuggling with my fluff ball. I work a 9-5 job and am a professional actor. I most recently played Viola in 12th Night, which was so much fun!
I enjoy red wine, coffee, and chocolate chip cookies. Brunch is obviously the best meal of the day, next to my all time favorite thing - pizza. Orange is my favorite color, I love getting into a good book, and scoring a sweet find at the thrift store.
I hope you follow along with me on my journey to reduce my waste. Together we will find alternatives to plastic, eat real food, and go on adventures instead of collecting more stuff!
How does that sound to you?
